League Cup: Fernando Torres with a hattrick

League Cup is not that much fashioned as other trophies but this is also a trophy that most clubs are seeking to capture if not for the so called big boys of the premiership. Yet rarely do other teams manage to win this cup. The latest round results proved this as the big teams ran away comfortable winners against their opposition although they showed some resistant. The major talk
of the results was of Torres scoring a superb hattrick, it was a fine answer to Benitez who kept him on the bench in last weekend's premiership fixture. Liverpool beat Reading 4-2 with another goal from Youssi Benayoun. Bobby Convey and Halls managed to score for the Hammers.

In other all premiership fixture Arsenal ran out comfortable winners against premiership rival Newcastle. Young and talented Bentdner and dynamic Denilson scored for the gunners as they won the match 2-0. Portsmouth and Manchester City also won their fixtures against Burnley and Norwich. Both won the match 1-0. David Nugent scored for Pompey while Samaras scored for the Manchester City which was enough to move their teams into the next round respectively.

Manchester United strike pass Mourinho less Chelsea

Manchester United ease pass Chelsea untroubled as the Blues were reduced to 10 men early in the first half. Match referee gave a poor decision in sending off John Obi Mikel which really spoiled the match as a spectator point of view. But for all those red devils supporters it was a moment of joy. Goal a piece from Carlos Tevez and Luis Saha ensured all 3 points for the Manchester United which now has climbed to 2nd spot after a terrific start.

In other matches Viduka's magic double goals were enough for Newcastle to earn all 3 points against the hammers. Newcastle managed to win the match 3 goals to 1. The other goals scored by N'Zogbia. Asthon provided consolation goals for the hammers.

Portsmouth also managed to win by a solitary goal against Blackburn side. Kanu was the scorer for the Pompey. Tottenham and Bolton also shared points with each other. Robbie Keane scored for the spurs while Ivan Campo equalised for the Trotters. Further Aston Villa secured all 3 points against quality opponents Everton with goals from Carew and Agbonlahor.

Gunners really firing all cylinder.

The young and rejuvenated gunners team who departed with their influential and legendary captain Theiry Henry is now exploring their potential this season. The young Fabregas has now matured enough and is one of the most talented player in the Europe. He had shown his eye for quality passing before but is now showing his goal scoring skill. He is simply unstoppable this season after scoring in 6 consecutive matches. Emmanuel Adebayor has also showcased his talent that he is the one to lead this season after scoring 5 goals in two matches.

The Derby team were really helpless as they were thumped by the gunners 5-0 with goals from Diaby, Fabregas and a superb hattrick from Adebayor. Arsenal just pushed all the times with a threat Derby hardly managed to attempt on target once or twice. Derby will certainly be one of the teams that are looking as a relegation prospect. Arsenal has increased their lead to 4 points as Liverpool were held goalless by Birmingham City. Liverpool will regret the decision of leaving their expensive summer acquisition on the bench. Fernando Torres came in the second half and produced some glimmer of hope but could not earn all 3 points for the Reds.

Fulham and Manchester City managed a high scoring draw. The scorers were Davies, Bouazza,
Murphy for Fulham while Petrov scored twice and Mpenza scored once for the blue half of Manchester. In other matches Middlesbrough and Sunderland also shared points while Reading came up with all 3 points agianst Wigan.

Result Summary:

Arsenal 5-0 Derby
Fulham 3-3 Man City
Liverpool 0-0 Birmingham
Middlesbrough 2-2 Sunderland
Reading 2-1 Wigan

Mourinho sacked or quited?

There was never a dull moment when the 'Special One' was around - whenever he opened his mouth it made a headline news. But now where he will head nobody knows but all premiership supporters would definitely want to see him associated with one of the premiership club. The Special one - Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea after years of rumors and speculation surrounding his difference of opinions with Chelsea board.Mourinho joined Chelsea in June 2004 and led them to the Premiership title in each of his first two seasons. But his relationship with Blues owner Roman Abramovich never improved and he quit despite having three years left on his contract.

Mourinho stunned football by parting company with Chelsea late on Wednesday, and has been replaced by Avram Grant. The Israeli, who was the club's director of football, will take charge alongside Steve Clarke. There is still no clear answer that whether Mourinho was sacked or he just quit the job.

It is still unknown where Mourinho will join. speculation has it that he may join Portuguese national team or the Spurs team. Let's see where he will land up.

Substitute Eduardo Da Silva added a third in the closing seconds to seal a good night's work for Arsene Wenger's army.

In other matches played yesterday Chelsea and Rosenberg managed to play a 1-1 draw.Rosenborg scored in the 24th minute, when Miika Koppinen was the man on the spot to poke in at the near post from set piece. In the second half Chelsea improved as the much-maligned Andrei Shevchenko nipped in score a headed leveller. In other match between Porto and Liverpool, Porto took the lead when hesitancy between defender Hyypia and Pepe Reina allowed Tarik Sektioui to nip in, before being upended in the box by Reina.Lucho Gonzalez coolly finished to take lead for the Portuguese team but Kuyt nodded home from close range Hyypia's header back across goal to settle for a tie. In the same match Pennant was red carded.

Derby register first win

Derby County newly promoted team registered their first win in the premiership against the Newcastle. Kenny Miller hit a spectacular shot from well outside the box to ensure the Rams all 3 points. It looked like that Derby were the weakest team in the premiership when Livepool hammered them few weeks ago.

In an earlier match the Manchester City managed all 3 points against Martin O Neil's Aston Villa. Michael Johnson's superb build up goal ensured them a second spot in the premiership table behind Arsenal. It looks like that Sven Goran Ericksson's team are highly motivated to achieve something this season. The premiership battle is highly raising up. Who knows Manchester City will the first team to break into the top four if not worthy of a premiership crown.
